It is already difficult to explain how two twins were born on different days. Imagine trying to explain how to twins were born on different years. This is exactly what happened to these California twins — one of them was born just as the year 2017 was coming to a close, while the other was born just as the world was welcoming the new year.
Born to Maria Flores, Joaquin Jr. Ontiveros was the last baby born in Kern County for the year 2017. His twin sister, Aitana de Jesus Ontiveros, was the first baby born in the area for the year 2018.
Even the doctor who assisted in Maria’s birth was fascinated by something so unusual.
“I’ve been in the practice for almost 30 plus years. I’ve never had the opportunity to do anything like that before,” said delivery doctor Seyed Tamjidi.
Even the hospital where the twins were born posted a lengthy status about the interesting incident of the New Year California twins. This update was posted from the official Delano Regional Medical Center (DMRC) Facebook page on January 2:
“DMRC is honored to play a significant role in the 2018 New Year delivery of baby twins — while extending a sincere appreciation to the dedicated DRMC Staff and Physicians for all they do! #ThankYou to our community partners for their generous support of gifts for this family!”
As of hospital tradition of DMRC, the first baby born in the new year is showered with gifts, hence the gratitude post of the hospital. Maria and her twins, therefore, were able to take home over $3000-worth of brand new baby gear.
This is perfect given the fact that the California twins were actually born 4 weeks prior to their expected delivery day. Maria said she didn’t have much time to shop for the twins yet, so the gifts came at an opportune time.
