It is unusual to see a celebrity express their true sentiments and honest feelings about the Pinoy showbiz industry. This was evident through Maine Mendoza’s open letter to her fans. Her open letter, which was published on her blog and posted on her Twitter, has caused a major stir online as she finally breaks free from the life of “living in a box”. She exposed the pressure she felt of people’s expectations of her.

“Judging, blaming and getting mad at me for expressing what I truly feel just because you do not agree and it is inconvenient for you. Dictating me what I should feel and should not feel. Ang hirap.”
The Dubsmash Queen, who has brought smiles on people’s faces, finally decided to break free and seek happiness of her own.

“I want to be able to do what I want and what makes me happy because I believe that is how life should be. I do not want to compromise my own happiness for other people’s desires. So this time, I am choosing myself. Ako naman.”
Also, the letter served as a reminder directed to AlDub fans that she and Alden are just friends and there’s nothing to expect more than that.

“My life changed drastically when Kalyeserye [their segment on Eat Bulaga] began. We’ve had blessings on top of blessings. Alden and I were given so much more than we could ask for…and for all the love and efforts you have given us, you deserve to know the truth that at this very moment Alden and I are just friends. We are a love team.”
Despite the numerous support she received after publishing her open letter, she was still vulnerable to negative comments. Maine reacted to the backlash and tweeted:

“You are all right. I deserve all the hate in the world because I am such a coward and a selfish little brat. I get it and I understand.”
Kapamilya singer Jake Zyrus couldn’t help but empathize with Yaya Dub. Being a public figure for years, he revealed that he had undergone the same crucial situation. Despite not knowing each other personally, he replied to Maine’s tweet, spilled his heartfelt words and started it with:

“Maine, I don’t know you personally but I’ve been there. Paulit ulit. Masakit pero eto ang realidad. Take a deep breath. Takas ka muna sa mundong magulo at mag-relax ka with people who you love and trust. Take a break. Maraming nagmamahal sayo. Focus on that.”
He shared that he was also once on the verge of giving up and his acceptance on the fact that there will be people who’ll fail to understand and accept him.

“Nagiging emosyonal ako sa ganyang mga salita kasi nasabi ko na yan dati. Pasensya ka na. Dumadating sa point na ayaw na natin. I still get many hurtful words until today. At minsan nagbbreakdown ako pero sa huli naiisip kong tanggapin na merong taong hindi ka maiintindihan.”

The thoughtful singer even reminded that Maine has inspired many people and she can overcome this difficult chapter in her career.
“At ang kailangang intindihin ng mga tao ay isa kang tao. Hindi manika, hindi robot. Kayang kaya mo yan. You’re the girl who inspires so many people. Don’t lose your goals.”

Jake ended his message with great emphasis on happiness. He encouraged Maine to follow where the happiness of her heart leads her.
“Whatever it is, DUN KA SA SASAYA KA.”
