It sounds like a far-fetched plot for a movie, but the following chain of events is a true-to-life story based on Sakorn Sachiwa’s life. The 44-year-old man from the northeastern province of Sisaket has been mistakenly declared dead after a body was found with his identification on it.

Sachiwa’s work in a fishing boat required him to be away from his family over a prolonged period of time. After not hearing from him for months, his family received information that a body was found in Bangkok with Sachiwa’s identity card on it. Soon enough, his cousin flew to Bangkok to retrieve his “body.”

Upon arriving, the cousin noticed something off about the body. Sachiwa is missing his two front teeth, yet the corpse has a complete set of teeth. He mentioned his suspicions to the family, but his gut was set aside until the body was finally cremated.

Six months after the body was cremated, Sachiwa returned home. However, he was flabbergasted by his family’s reaction. How would you react if you see a deceased loved one walk into your home? Some people would frantically leap with happiness, while others will be scared to death. Sachiwa’s mother belonged to the latter.

In an interview with a local news outlet, the Thai man exclaimed how he went weak in the knees after hearing his skeptical mother’s words:

“I was so confused. My mother said, ‘You’re dead. How can you come back?’ I lost all my energy at that point.”

After the shock has worn off, Sachiwa’s family was already enlightened. On the other hand, the Thai man reached out to the local authorities to reclaim his identity and identify the body who was cremated.
