In an episode of “Antiques Roadshow”, a young boy showed up with an old watercolor painting that he bought with his dad in an auction. Not knowing how much it was really worth, he went to the show to consult with expert David Weiss.

When David saw him, he immediately said that the latter was probably the youngest collector he has ever met. The boy agreed and told the host that collecting antiques and selling them after was really something he likes to do. He said that silverware, in particular, are his favorite because of their high value. However, for the episode, the boy brought a watercolor painting by an unknown artist.

The young collector explained,

“This piece was found at an auction in South Jersey — I got it for two bucks. We thought it was a watercolor, but we couldn’t tell because of the UV glass.”

David tells him that it is indeed watercolor, and asks the young boy how much he thinks the painting was worth. Unsure of what to say, the little auction-lover responded that he was hoping it was worth somewhere around $ 150.

The show’s host told him that it is, and proceeded to explain the background of the painting. Created by Dutch painter Albert Neuhuys in the late 19th century, the painting is actually a rare work of the artist that would be worth a fortune if the boy decided to sell it.

According to David, the piece of art is indeed worth $ 150 — and a lot more. To the boy’s shock, the expert said its value today would be around a whopping $1000 to $1500! David also praised him for his good eye, and told him that he might be a good art collector one day.
