These days, losing a wallet is such a chore – after all, you have to cancel all of your cards and request for ID replacements, aside from saying goodbye to a couple of memorabilia and bucks you’ve stashed in the crevices.

But what if you find your beloved billfold after misplacing it, say, seven decades ago? What will be the first thing you’ll do?

In Nevada, Iowa, a couple moved to the state and purchased a rundown movie theater to put up a live performance comedy club in town. But for Larry Sloan and his wife, they never knew how much history was inside the movie house’s walls.

While renovating the place, the workers found something stuck in the floorboards. Lodging it out, they found that it was a wallet – a plastic one at that.

“It was plastic, so the first thing that came to my mind is this must be a child’s wallet. I had no idea how old it would be,” Sloan explained to Iowa news station, KCCI.

What they found inside the wallet was more surprising – for the pocket calendar says 1944. It also had ration stamps, a Boy Scout card, couple of faded snapshots, and an ID. A clue to the owner’s identity!

The wallet belonged to a certain Claire McIntosh, whose telephone number was just a single-digit of ‘8’.

“His telephone number was 8,” Sloan told the daily Ames Tribune. “I get a kick out of that every time I say it,” he quipped.

So Sloan called the former owner, not really knowing if he or she is still alive. And when McIntosh answered the call, he initially thought it was prank and insisted that he hadn’t lost a billfold.

But McIntosh dropped by and realized that the wallet of his teenage years was finally found again – after losing it in the 40’s.

So what will he do with his wallet and its contents? Laughing, he said, “Well, I’m just gonna cherish them!”
