A viral photo of a man, posing with a beheaded statue of the Santo Niño, has been gaining mixed reactions from netizens. The photos suggest that the man himself beheaded the Santo Nino figure with a saw.

Roman Catholics hold religious icons in high regard. Aside from the crucifix, the Black Nazarene, and icons of Mother Mary as well as the saints – they also regard the dear images of the Santo Niño, the “Holy Child.” This is exactly why the photos of the allegedly defaced icon became a controversial topic. They impeded on the sensibilities of some of the Catholic faithful. Most took the act of beheading a saint figure as blatant disrespect for religion, despite the photos not having any context — the intentions of the man weren’t clear.

Meanwhile, here are comments from those who don’t think the man did anything wrong by beheading a statue of the Santo Nino. Some have cited passages from the bible which say people should not worship icons or the figures of saints themselves.
