It was only on December 9, 2017 when archaeologists discovered these Egyptian tombs on the west bank of the Nile River located in the southern city of Luxor. According to Little Things, the tombs were found in a “cemetery for nobleman and officials” and had wall inscriptions and paintings back to the 18th Dynasty, the same dynasty when the famed King Tutankhamun ruled.

“It’s truly an exceptional day,” Antiquities Minister Khaled al-Anani said after discovering two tombs filled with artifacts.

“One of them has a very nice, well-preserved colored wall. We found a big number of objects,” the Antiquities Minister added.

For instance, it was reported by ABC News that one of the tombs appeared to be a collection of 450 statues and a mummy. While the mummy was still unidentified, inscriptions on the wall suggest that it was from the era of King Thutmose IV’s and King Amenhotep II, both were pharaohs of the 18th dynasty.

On the other hand, the other tomb has five entrances which lead to a rectangular hall. It also contained two burial shafts located in both northern and southern parts of the tomb. The tomb was a collection of funerary cones, painted wooden funerary masks, clay vessels, statues, and a mummy who was suggested to look like a top official. An inscription on the ceiling suggested that it reads King Thutmose I’s name, according to the ministry.
