$112,000 DOLLARS O KATUMBAS NG 5.6 MILYONG PISO NATAGPUAN SA TAMBAKAN NG BASURA!

A worker at a waste disposal site in Japan found $112,000 cash in a stream of pulverised rubbish, police said."There were about a thousand 10,000 yen ($112) bills that came out of a pulveriser unscathed," said a spokesman at the Asaminami police department in Hiroshima prefecture. He said there were also 2,300 fragments of bills destroyed by the machine at a municipal facility that processes bulk waste such as cupboards and mattresses that cannot be collected by regular garbage collection.

Police suspect the owner of the cash might have forgotten the money was there when they threw away some furniture. "We believe it is unlikely there is anything criminal in this, although we must say we don't know much about this money at all," the spokesman said. The cash was found on Monday. If no-one comes forward within three months, the waste disposal facility will have the right to claim the money, the spokesman said.

An employee of a Japanese waste collection facility has handed in Y42.5 million (£300,000) in cash that he found in dumped rubbish, bolstering the nation's reputation for honesty. The 63-year-old worker, who has not been identified, found the cash in the rubbish disposal plant in the town of Numata, central Japan, on Tuesday. Police were informed and are treating the matter as a case of lost property, the Mainichi newspaper reported. Authorities are calling on anyone who believes the money may belong to them to come forward, although they are refusing to provide further details on the container the money was found in to eliminate false claims.

Similar discoveries are a fairly frequent occurrence in Japan - although the amount of money involved in this latest incident is larger than usual. In late 2012, the remains of bank notes totalling Y10 million were discovered after emerging from a pulveriser at a waste disposal plant in Hiroshima. Police eventually recovered 2,300 particles of bills and concluded they had been hidden in an item of household furniture and forgotten by the owner.

Some years previously, staff of a waste disposal facility in Gifu Prefecture found Y6.85 million in banknotes and coins that had been deliberately torn or bent. By law, anyone who finds money and hands it in to police is entitled to a reward of between 5 percent and 20 percent of the total if the owner comes forward. If the cash is unclaimed after three months, however, the finder is permitted to keep it all.
