Robin Padilla, nagsalita na matapos batikusin dahil sa ginawa niya sa isang Korean Contestant sa PGT.

Shortly after his alleged rude and racist comment to a Korean contestant on “Pilipinas Got Talent,” veteran action star and one of the show’s jury Robin Padilla took to his Instagram page to make an explanation. Along with a photograph of the “KKK” logo, or the “Kataas-taasan, Kagalang-galangang Katipunan,” Robin wrote:

“Filipino Hospitality is far different from slavery and stupidity.. mahalin mo ang bayan mo at ang lahi mo lalo ang wika mo bago ang lahi at wika at bayan ng dayuhan. Always Fight for your freedom to gain respect never allow a foreign power to intimidate you in your country just because they are rich. Be a proud Filipino!!! Mabuhay ang lahing kayumanggi!! Mabuhay ang Tagalog Republic!!!”

However, it seems like his statement just fueled the controversy he’s currently involved in because many netizens still contradicted his views. For instance, one IG user noted that there shouldn’t be a problem since the contestant was using the universal language. Another one directly addressed his rant to the veteran actor and claimed that he “humiliated” and “bullied” the contestant.

On the other hand, many online users still supported Robin’s stance. A netizen explained that learning to speak the language of the country you’re in is a sign of respect. Another one stated that such incident represented the reality of the Philippines wherein foreigners speak their own language even though they’re here, unlike in Japan wherein you need to learn Nihongo to be able to communicate.

Meanwhile, amid the debate, one netizen said that they agree with Robin’s point. The only problem was, according to the netizen, the way he talked to the Korean contestant after knowing that he could not speak Tagalog. During the PGT episode, the Korean contestant named Kim Jiwan, a magician, mentioned in his introduction that he considers the Philippines as his home and expressed that he wants to live here for the rest of his life.

Jiwan then asked Robin if he could “use” him for his magic trick. But the PGT judge declined and said:

“I’m very sorry, you cannot use me. Can you see that (pointing at the sign “Pilipinas Got Talent”)? Firstly, mag-Tagalog ka muna bago mo ako kausapin.”

Fellow judge Vice Ganda agreed with Robin and told Jiwan that it’s his social responsibility to learn the Filipino language because he is in the Philippines.

In the end, Jiwan told Robin that he will finally learn the language. Robin also praised him for being able to pull off his performance despite the pressure.
