Although there are already countless modus operandi that authorities are on the lookout for, crooks always think of new alternative methods for committing crimes.
A Facebook user from Puerto Princesa named Ginna Rapsing Kvebek-Olsen shared what seemed like a new modus used by crooks to steal money from unwary victims. Through a Facebook status, Ginna narrated how this new modus works.
At around 6 in the evening on Tuesday, Ginna received a text from her shopkeeper narrating that a man went to their shop and claimed that he brought a package meant for her. The man then asked for a payment amounting to P1000 in exchange for the package.
Ginna was at Church during that time while her shopkeeper was left to mind the store alone.
In order to convince the shopkeeper, the thief pretended to talk to Ginna on his cellphone. This led to the shopkeeper believing in the thief and handing over the money.
An excerpt of Ginna’s status reads:
“Pagpasok sa shop ko, kunwari daw may kausap atako daw kausap niya. Ang sabi iwan na lang dun ang package at kunin ang pera sa sales boy ko. Binigay naman ng sales boy ko yung 1k na hinihingi niya.”
When the shopkeeper finally came to his senses he immediately called Ginna and informed her that he got victimized by a “budol-budol” a colloquial term for a scam artist who typically employs a subtle form of hypnosis.
Ginna included in her post photos of the package that she received. Needless to say, the contents of the package were not valuable in the least.
Ginna hopes people learned from this unfortunate incident. She urges people to be skeptical and remain vigilant.
BUDOL-BUDOL NA NAGDEDELIVER NG PACKAGE NA MAY LAMANG BATO AT NANGHIHINGI NG PERA! ISINIWALAT!
